Surely the last classic discosong of the german "Schlager" and gay-Icon Marianne Rosenberg was "Sie ist kalt" (She is cold) of 1979. MOSKOW DISKOW - TELEX

Heute verbringe ich meinen letzten von rund 300 Abenden seit September 2008 in Moskau. Da sollte der heute hier im Mittelpunkt stehende Song durchaus Bezug zu dieser Stadt haben. Ausgewählt hab ich daher "Moskow Diskow" der belgischen Gruppe "Telex". Diese wandelten 1979 bei diesem Song voll und ganz auf den musikalischen Spuren von Kraftwerk, was der Qualität des Tracks natürlich nur gut tun kann. In diesem Sinne "Dosvedanja Moskva"! Machs gut!

Today i am spending the last of circa 300 evenings since september 2008 in Moscow. That's why my post today should honour this special time in my life. So i have choosen "Moskow Diskow" of "Telex", a belgian group which was obviously totally addicted to the sound of Kraftwerk. In this spirit i say "Dozvedanja Moskva"! Have a good time!

Eine ausserordentlich gelungene Discoplatte des 1979 langsam aus der Mode kommenden aufwendig instrumentalisierten Disco-Stils ist die LP "Strange Affair" von "Strange Affair". Produziert wurde die Platte von Giuliano Salerni, der ebenso den Hi-Gloss Hit "You'll never know" auf den Markt brachte. Neben dem hier präsentierten "Don't Stop The Music" gibts noch ne Reihe anderer gelungener Tracks auf der Scheibe, die zu späterem Zeitpunkt gepostet werden...

A magnificent Discorecord of 1979 is the LP "Strange Affair" of "Strange Affair". A costly and ambitous orchestrated latecomer of it's kind, produced by Giuliano Salerni who was also responsible for the Hi-Gloss Hit "You'll never know". Beside the posted Track "Don't Stop The Music" are some other nice tracks for the dancefloor which i post some other day...

Gute Bässe, dezente Streicher, die üblichen Gesangseinlagen und nette Synthie-Elemente machen den Track von 1979 tanzbodentauglich. Produziert wurde das ganze von George Lagios und Pat Deserio, erschienen ist der Song auf der LP "Bombers 2"....

Heiß ging es wohl wirklich bei Debbie Jacobs her. Denn so beschwörend wie die Backing-girls und Debbie ihr "Hot Hot (Give it all you got)" in das Mikro schmettern ist anderes kaum anzunehmen. Übrigens ist der Song mein Lieblingstrack auf ihrer LP "Undercover Lover" von 1979...

Obviously hot seemed to be the atmosphere during the recordings of "Hot Hot (Give it all you got), otherwise this kind of fervency in the voices of Debbie Jacobs and her backing girls are unexplainable. From my point of view the best part of her LP "Undercover Lover" which was published in 1979...

Die Sugarhill Gang mit ihrem "Rapper's Delight" muss 1979 mächtig eingeschlagen haben, wurde kurz darauf deren Stil (den sie nach verschiedenen Quellen ja selbst schon abgeschaut haben) vielseitig kopiert. Hier versucht sich "Jocko" am McFadden & Withehead Hit "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now", übernimmt Beat und wesentliche melodische Elemente und legt eine Schicht fröhlichen Sprechgesangs darüber. Fertig war "Rhythm Talk", ein toller Song der reif fürs Wiederentdecken ist...

The Sugarhill Gang and their Hit "Rapper's Delight" seemed to be a little earth-quake for the music business in 1979. Short after their success a huge amount of musicians startet to copy the recept of "Rapper's Delight". For example the artist "Jocko" with "Rhythm Talk", in which he used the McFadden & Withehead Hit "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" like the "Sugarhill Gang" did it with "Good Times" of "Chic". The beat and the main elements of the arrangements together with a new spoken text seemed to be the road to a satisfied audience. Time to promote this well produced song, which was and is rather unknown in Germany...

Hätte Richard Wagner Disco gemacht, vielleicht hätte es ein wenig wie "High On Mad Mountain" vom "Mike Theodore Orchestra" geklungen. Ein wenig schräg, mit fettem Orchester bestückt, vielleicht ein wenig an Größenwahn anklingende Arrangements. Zum tanzen auf jeden Fall erste Sahne. Erschienen 1979 auf der LP "High On Mad Mountain"...

If Richard Wagner had done some Disco, maybe it would sound close to "High On Mad Mountain" of "The Mike Theodore Orchestra". A little bit crazy, with huge orchestra, a little bit megalomaniac, that's perfect for hot minutes on the disco-dancefloor. Published in 1979 on the LP "High On Mad Mountain"...

DON'T GIVE A DAMN - REVELACION

Paris VI:

Dieser Song gab mir einst ein Rästel auf. Woher kenn ich die Melodie? Allerdings mach ichs auch heute wieder kurz, denn ich möchte weiterhin Paris erkunden: Revelacion's "Don't give a damn" ist eine gekonnte Disco-Hommage an Edith Piaf. Hinter dem Mischpult werkelte dabei der vertraute Discomacher Cerrone im Jahre 1979.

Do you know this melody? For me it was at first a mystery, but after a while i realized that "Don't give a damn" of Revelacion is a disco-cover of Edith Piaf's "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien". Very nice! Like everytime when producers like Cerrone is responsible for the music...

I'M SO GLAD THAT I'M A WOMAN - LOVE UNLIMITED

Und nun zum zweitem Song zu Ehren des internationaler Frauentags:

Ein Teil des Erfolgs von Barry White als Produzent und Musiker war sicherlich dessen gutes Händchen bei der Auswahl attraktiver wie begabter Backing-girls. Da die Damen so ein schönes Trio waren, wurde zwischen 1972 und 1980 auch ein Schwung eigener LPs produziert, so unter anderem die LP "Love Is Back" im Jahre 1979. Vorteilhaft erwies sich, das White mit der Sängerin Glodean James auch verheiratet und ausserdem deren Schwester Linda Teil von "Love Unlimited" war. Die Einnahmen blieben also weitgehend in der Familie, schließlich war nur die Dritte im Bunde, Diane Taylor, nicht verschwippt oder verschwägert. Hier nun der tiefschürfend philosophische Titel "I'm So Glad That I'm A Woman"...

And now my second post to the hounor of the international woman's day:

A part of Barry White's succes as producer and musician was surely his good taste by choosing the right staff for making his buisness. The three lovely ladies of "Love Unlimited" were attractive and talented. Mostly they sung for his creations in the background, but between 1972 and 1980 they also published some well records like the LP "Love Is Back" in 1979. Fortunately most of the earned money stayed further in White's family, beacause he was married with Glodean James, one lady of the trio. Another one was Linda james, the sister of Glodean. Only Diane Taylor was not a relative. Here now their hardly intellectual and philosophical song "I'm So Glad That I'm A Woman"...

THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC - TUXEDO JUNCTION

Unter dem Projekt "Tuxedo Juction" brachten die Produzenten Rinder & Lewis zwei Alben unters Volk. Das erste erschien 1977 und hatte mit "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" (Post vom 27. November 2008) einen echten Hit hervorgebracht, das Zweite unter dem Namen "Take the A-Train" wurde 1979 veröffentlicht und blieb eher ein Geheimtipp. Mein Favorit darauf ist "That Old Black Magic", eine Interpretation des bekannten Swing-Klassiker aus den 40ern...

Under the name Tuxedo Junction the producers Rinder & Lewis published two records. The first one was the selft-titled "Tuxedo Junction" with the famous "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" (my post on the 27th of November 2008) in 1977, the second one was the LP "Take the A-Train" in 1979. My favourite on this latter one is a new version of "That Old Black Magic", originally released in 1943...

SOFT EMOTION - AZOTO

Oh wie ich diesen Song liebe. Soft Emotion ist eich echter Ohrwurm der große Sommergefühle weckt. Wie ich gehört hab ist ja im Rest Europas schon der Frühling angebrochen, hier in Moskau ist leider noch Winter. Aber mit Azoto im Ohr ists halb so schlimm...

Erschienen 1979 auf der LP "Disco Fizz". Aus dieser LP wurde am 29. November 2008 bereits "Anytime or Place" gepostet.

How i love this Song. "Soft Emotion" is an extremely catchy tune that spreads a breeze of summer in the last days of winter. People told me that in other parts of Europe the spring is already there, here in Moscow of course not - unfortunately. But with Azoto in my ears it's easy to hold on and think about smelting ice-cream in the sun...

Published on the LP "Disco Fizz" in 1979. I already posted "Anytime or Place" of this record on the 29th. November of 2008.
