NIGHTS OVER EGYPT - THE JONES GIRLS

Genau das Richtige für länger werdende, warme Abende ist "Nights Over Egypt" von den "Jones Girls". Brenda, Valorie and Shirley Jones aus Detroit waren ursprünglich Backup-Sängerinnen für Diana Ross, Lou Rawls, Linda Clifford, Aretha Franklin und andere, bevor sie ab 1979 auch eigenes veröffentlichten. "Nights Over Egypt" wurde 1981 auf der LP "Get As Much Love As You Can" veröffentlicht und von Dexter Wansel, Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff and McKinley Jackson produziert.

Something for warm and long nights in a tasty atmosphere is "Nights Over Egypt" of the "Jones Girls". The Sisters Brenda, Valorie and Shirley Jones from Detroit were succesfull back-up ladies for musicians like Diana Ross, Lou Rawls, Linda Clifford, Aretha Franklin and others before they published some records under their name. This one is taken from the LP "Get As Much Love As You Can" and was produced by Dexter Wansel, Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff, McKinley Jackson

DIANA ROSS - UPSIDE DOWN (ORIGINAL CHIC MIX)

Jeder kennt natürlich Diana Ross' "Upisde Down". Aber mit dem "Original Chic Mix" (Bernard Edwards und Nile Rodgers) von Upside Down kann ich vielleicht doch noch etwas besonderes anbieten. Kleine Unterschiede zu der 1980 letztlich veröffentlichten Version findet man im Gesang und der Abmischung der verschiedenen Instrumente...

Everyone knows Diana Ross' "Upside Down". But the "Original Chic Mix" (Bernard Edwards und Nile Rodgers) of "Upside Down" is maybe something knew i come along with. Little differences to the published version in 1980 can be heared in her voice and the different soundmixing of the instruments...

Und nun zum zweitem Song zu Ehren des internationaler Frauentags:

Ein Teil des Erfolgs von Barry White als Produzent und Musiker war sicherlich dessen gutes Händchen bei der Auswahl attraktiver wie begabter Backing-girls. Da die Damen so ein schönes Trio waren, wurde zwischen 1972 und 1980 auch ein Schwung eigener LPs produziert, so unter anderem die LP "Love Is Back" im Jahre 1979. Vorteilhaft erwies sich, das White mit der Sängerin Glodean James auch verheiratet und ausserdem deren Schwester Linda Teil von "Love Unlimited" war. Die Einnahmen blieben also weitgehend in der Familie, schließlich war nur die Dritte im Bunde, Diane Taylor, nicht verschwippt oder verschwägert. Hier nun der tiefschürfend philosophische Titel "I'm So Glad That I'm A Woman"...

And now my second post to the hounor of the international woman's day:

A part of Barry White's succes as producer and musician was surely his good taste by choosing the right staff for making his buisness. The three lovely ladies of "Love Unlimited" were attractive and talented. Mostly they sung for his creations in the background, but between 1972 and 1980 they also published some well records like the LP "Love Is Back" in 1979. Fortunately most of the earned money stayed further in White's family, beacause he was married with Glodean James, one lady of the trio. Another one was Linda james, the sister of Glodean. Only Diane Taylor was not a relative. Here now their hardly intellectual and philosophical song "I'm So Glad That I'm A Woman"...

SWEET PAIN - DEXTER WANSEL

"I'll never forget (my favourite Disco) ist wohl der prominenteste Titel auf Dexter Wansel's LP "Time is slipping away" und eines meiner erklärten Lieblingslieder. Ein weiter wunderbarer Titel auf der Platte ist "Sweet Pain", ein sehr softer und harmonischer Song. Gerade die ersten Takte wurden wiederholt von verschiedenen Musikern in den 90ern gesampelt...

"I'll never forget (my favourite Disco)" is surely the most famous track on Dexter Wansel's LP "Time is slipping away" and one of my all time favourites. Another wonderful song published on this LP is "Sweet Pain", a soft and slow, very harmonic song...

Dinorah Dinorah (12") - George Benson

Aufgepasst, jetzt wirds Edel.

"Dinorah Dinorah" von George Benson ist wohl der beste Sound für eine gepflegte Penthouseparty in einer heißen Sommernacht. Erschienen ist das Stück in seiner vollen Länge (die Albumversion auf der LP "Give me the night" ist kürzer) nur als B-Seite der 12" Version des Megahits "Give me the night" im Jahre 1980.

Attention please, my todays post keeps the atmosphere of real glamour and money.

Surely "Dinorah Dinorah" of George Benson is the best sound for a cocktailparty in a penthousesuite during the evening. In it's full length it was only published on the B-side of the 12" "Give me the night" megaseller in 1980, a cutted variant you can find also on the LP "Give me the night".

Feel It - Revelation

Sehr elegant kommt der Titel "Feel it" von Revelation daher. Mit traumhaften Streichern, klangvollem Klavier, gut dossiertem Gesang, nett gezupften E-Gitarren. Aufgenommen und publiziert 1980...

A very gentle song is "Feel it" of Revelation. Amazing Fender Rhodes, lovely piano, well played guitars. Recorded and Published in 1980...

Let's Swing - The Brother Johnson

Dieser Track ist ein echtes ein Meisterwerk. Kurz und knackig, anspruchsvoll instrumentiert und liebevoll arrangiert und letztlich zeitlos klassisch. Die Brother Johnson waren ohnehin ein mit großartigem können ausgestattetes Gespann, und dieser auf der B-Seite ihrer single "Stomp" 1980 veröffentlichte Song stellt dies einmal mehr unter Beweis. Der Titel wurde übrigens nur als B-Seite und auf keinem Album veröffentlicht.

This Track is a masterpiece. The Brother Johnson released the short instrumental title "Let's swing" as B-Side on the famous single "Stomp" in 1980. In my opinion, the qualitiy of this B-Side shows one time more the extraordinary talent of this duo. By the way, Let's Swing was never published on any LP or something...

Hold Tight - Change

Eine dreiste Kopie des allseites anerkannten und beliebten Chic-Sounds (I Want Your Love, Le Freak) war die Studioproduktion Change. Aber es war eine gute, deren hören heute noch immer beeindruckt. Heute gibts den Titel Hold Tight aus dem Jahre 1981, erschienen auf der LP Miracles. Unter dem Namen Change brachten die Produzenten Jacques Fred Petrus und Mauro Malavasi bereits 1980 die LP "The Glow Of Love" heraus und nach Miracles sollten weitere folgen. 

Der Name Change war offensichtlich fast wörtlich zu nehmen, die Musiker (unter ihnen einige der besten Sänger ihrer Zeit wie Jocelyn Brown oder Luther Vandross) wurden immer wieder neu zusammengestellt, der Sound blieb jedoch Disco-Funk-R&B orientiert. Unter den Sängern auf dieser LP war übrigens auch Diva Gray, welche auch bei Chic mit von der Partie war.

Maybe not more than a copy of the famous Chic sound was Change - but a real well made done. The producers Jacques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi brought some of the best musicians of these days togehter (Jocelyn Brown, Diva Gray, Luther Vandross and many others) and published a couple of succesfull LP's. Today i post a Song from her second LP Miracles, published in 1981: Hold Tight.

Mademoiselle - Foxy

Etwas wirklich entspanntes möchte ich heute hier präsentieren: "Mademoiselle" von Foxy. Der Titel befand sich auf ihrer 1978 veröffentlichten LP Get Off, welche neben dem heutigen Post auch ihren größten Erfolg "Get Off" beinhaltete. Jener Track war seiner Zeit um Jahre voraus und kann im Video unten bewundert werden.

Die Platte beinhaltet aber einige weitere guter Stücke, wie "Ready for Love", "Tena's Song" oder eben Mademoiselle, welches heute hier im Mittelpunkt steht. Nicht wirklich Disco, eher R&B im Latinolook...

A very easy-going song i represent today: "Mademoiselle" of Foxy. The Song was published in 1978 on her LP Get Off, which included also their most succesful song "Get off". The LP had also some other great songs, like "Ready for Love", "Tena's Song" or "Mademoiselle". latter one is not really Disco, more R&B, heavily inspired by latino-sounds...
