Eine wirklich nicht zu verachtende Interpretation des "Chic"-Hits "Everbody Dance" lieferte die britische Combo "The Players Association" auf ihrer LP "Turn the Music Up" 1979 ab. Locker flockig geht es zur Sache, unbeschwert und mitreißend....

BOND 77 - MARVIN HAMLISH

Mein Lieblings-James-Bond-Film ist ganz klar "Der Spion der mich liebte" von 1977. Roger Moore und die zauberhafte Barbara Bach - spätere Eherfrau Ringo Starrs - retten dort die Welt vor dem größenwahnsinnigen Bösewicht Stromberg, der wie so oft in Bond-Filmen von einem deutschen (Curd Jürgens)  gespielt wird. 

Großartige Kulissen, tolle Drehorte und süffisante Dialoge geben dem Film schwung. Herausragend - und für einen Bond-Film geradezu Revolutionär - war die damalige Filmmusik von Marvin Hamlish. Vor allem das Stück "Bond 77" ist ein echtes Discojuwel auf dem Soundtrack "The Spy Who Loved me"...

My all time favourite James-Bond-Movie was and is "The Spy Who Loved Me" of 1977. Roger Moore and the magnificent Barbara Bach - later the wife of Ringo Starr - are saving together the world. Their evil combatant is played - like very often - by a famous german actor of these days (Curd Jürgens). 

Fantanstic places (Egypt, the Alps, Sardinia), wonderful scenery and funny dialogs are giving the movie the right tempo. Another important point of the it's succes was the - at least for a Bond movie - revolutionary music score by Marvin Hamlish. Especially the track "Bond 77" is a disco-jewel on the Soundtrack "The Spy Who Loved me"...

ASH 48 / KNOCK ON WOOD 85' - AMII STEWART (please use the links below the text)

This is not Amii 1985, it's her 1979

Amii Stewart schien die Rolle der mysterösen und feurigen Disco-Action-Queen wie angeboren. Nur leider kam sie mit ihrem Konzept etwas spät. Zwar war ihre Version von "Knock On Wood" einer der wohl größten und heute noch populärsten Erfolge der Disco-Ära, aber ein Anknüpfen sollte ihr nicht mehr so recht gelingen. Barry Leng, Produzent ihrer frühen Erfolge, polierte die Songs ihrer beiden unter seiner Führung entstanden Alben "Knock On Wood" und "Paradise Bird" (beide 1979) 1985 noch einmal auf der LP "The Hits" im Stil der Zeit auf. Mit dabei natürlich "Knock On Wood", aber auch ein eigenwilliger Ableger des Songs: Ash 48...

Amii Stewart managed the concept as mysterious and tempered Disco-Queen quite well, but maybe she went a little bit to late in that business. For sure, her coverversion of "Knock On Wood" was and is one of the most succesfull songs of the disco period, but selling records on that level she never reached again. Barry Leng, producer of her early LPs "Knock On Wood" and "Paradise Bird" (both 1979), remixed the songs on them in 1985 for the LP "The Hits". So here is "Knock on Wood 85'" and a kind of Spin-off of it: Ash 48.

SLOW DOWN (12") - JOHN MILES

John Miles landete mit "Music" 1976 einen unerwarteten und ausserordentlichen Erfolg der in seiner Karriere einmalig bleiben sollte. Kurz darauf versuchte er sich auch in Disco mit dem Song "Slow Down". Schwungvoll und kantig orchestriert, klingt der Track fast wie die Hintergrundmusik zu einer Verfolgungsjagd aus einem französischen Actionfilm jener Jahre. zu finden auf der LP "Stranger in the City". 

John Miles had with "Music" in 1976 an extraordinary and singular success. Afterwards he halso find his way to Disco and published on the LP "Stranger in the City" the track "Slow Down", a short and fast song that sounds like a perfect score for a car-chase in a french action movie of these days.

ARE YOU READY - BILLY OCEAN

Are You Ready von Billy Ocean klingt verdächtig nach den Produktionen von Quincy Jones aus jener Zeit (zum Beispiel nach Michael Jacksons "Don't Stop till you get enough"). Macht ja nichts, schließlich hat sich Ocean da nicht am schlechtesten Vorbild orientiert. Wem der Song gefällt sollte sich auch den Titel Back Street von Ronn Matlock (Post vom 07. Februar 09) anhören.

Are You Ready of Billy Ocean sounds suspicous like productions of Quincy Jones of that period (for example similar to Michael Jackson's "Don't stop till you get enough"). But who cares, surely it was not the worsest role model for making good music. If you like this post, you should look after Ronn Matlock's Back Street, my post of the 7th of February 09.

LOVIN' JUST FOR FUN - KELLY MARIE

Bei dem folgenden Song bitte ich vorsorglich die Höhen an der Stereoanlage etwas herauszunehmen, die Tonlage der Sängerin könnte sonst die Boxen ruinieren. Es handelt sich nämlich um die Britin Kelly Marie, welche mit ihrer Stimme Höhen erreicht die dich und deine Umgebung für längere Zeit schädigen könnten. 1980 versuchte sie mit der Wiederveröffentlichung ihres Songs "Lovin' just fur fun" diesen doch noch zum Hit zu machen, und siehe da, das Publikum war gnädig und kaufte diesmal (im Gegensatz zu 1978) die Platte. Wie auch immer, "Lovin' just for fun" ist ein toller, beschwingter Song der gute Laune erzeugt.

Attention please, before playing the next song dimm the highs of your stereo a little bit down. Because it's Kelly Marie, and her voice is reaching regions which could be dangerous for your ears and the ones of your neighbours too. In 1980 she tried with the re-release of her Song "Lovin' just fur fun" (published originally in 1978) to follow her success with "Feels like i'm in Love" of the same year. Surprisingly these time the audience was mild and bought the record in opposite to 1978. However, the song is quite lovely and brings fun...

DON'T COME BACK - THE NICK STRAKER BAND

Die Nick Straker Band ist allgemein ja durch ihren Megahit "A Walk In The Park" bekannt. Mit auf der dazugehörgen LP "Future's Above My Head" war auch der Titel "Don't Come Back", welcher an damals modernen synthi-effekten auffährt was zu haben war. Nicht schlecht, jedoch nicht gut genug für die Fortsetzung des Erfolges von "A Walk In The Park". Nick Straker verschwand samt Band als "One Hit Wonder" wieder in der Versenkung...

The Nick Straker Band had in 1979 with "A Walk In The Park" a huge hit in Europe. The band published soon after this succes the LP "Future's Above My Head" on which is also the up-to-date synthie track "Don't Come Back" on. Nice, but not nice enough for repeating the first success. Nick Straker and his Band had lost their audience so fast as they had found it...
