Zurückgekehrt in heimische Gefilde, komme ich grad viel zu selten zum Bloggen. Tja. Aber heute gibts was sommerliches für die euro-disco-verwöhnten Ohren: den Track "Disco Bouzouki" von der "Disco Bouzouki Band" aus dem Jahr 1977. Der Name des Songs ist durchaus Programm, von der Bouzuki wird deftigst gebrauch gemacht. Ein fescher Männerchor und ein flotter Beat machen den Rest...

Back in Bavaria for some holiday i am quite often to lazy for blogging new tracks. But today i am in the mood for posting a pushing summer track for hardcore euro-disco-fans: The Song "Disco Bouzouki" of the "Disco Bouzouki Band" made in 1977. The name of the Band and the song says everything, the Bouzouki is the main part of the recording. A lovely chorus of men plus a pushing beat assured a strange greek disco-trash expirience.

Was liegt da näher als was sonniges aus Frankreich: "Tequila" von den "Chocolat's". Vom Original wurde gehörig abstand genommen, die Discoversion ist durchaus was besonderes, eigenes. Der Song erschien 1977 auf der LP "Fabulous Chocolat's"...

Eine der großen Diven der Disco-Ära blieb in meinem Blog bisher unerwähnt. Heute ändert sich das. Hier kommt Gloria Gaynor mit ihrem Song "Most Of All". Produziert wurde der Song und die dazugehörige LP "Glorious" von Gregg Diamond, ein umtriebiger und erfolgreicher Produzent, der schon mit Andrea True (More More More) und eigenen Projekten wie Bionic Boogie (Risky Changes) gut im Geschäft war. Erschienen ist die Platte 1978...

One of the leading disco-divas of the discoperiod was not mentioned on my blog since i started in oktober. what a shame! today i change it and post Gloria Gaynor's song "Most Of All", published on her LP "Glorious" in 1978. The record was produced by Gregg Diamond, a busy and succesfull creator who was also responsible for Andrea Ture Connection's "More More More" or his "Bionic Boogie" project...

Sehr eigenwillige Töne aus dem Paris des Jahres 1977 stehen heute im Mittelpunkt: "Robot in the Street" von "Robot - A Discomedy". Der Song ist dabei Teil einer Konzept-LP, bei der eine Roboter die Welt heimsucht. Bizarr und hinreisend zugleich. Vorallem die Sängerin des Songs legt sich voll ins Zeug und legt all ihre Emotion in ihre fast schon musical-hafte Performance...

Extremely idiosyncratic and intersting discosounds made in Paris in 1977 are taking stage today: "Robot in the Street" of "Robot - A Discomedy". The Song is thereby a part of the self-titled concept-LP "Robot - A discomedy" on which a roboter is appearing on earth. Primarily the singer is giving her best and puts all her emotion into the text which sounds lastly like a musical-performance...

Take Me...

Als 1977 die Schalplatte ihren hunderten Geburtstag feierte, trug auch die gute Donna Summer mit der Konzept-LP "I Remember Yesterday" zur Erinnerung an jenes Jubiläum bei. Musikalisch arbeitet sie sich darauf von den 20ern (I Remember Yesterday) bis in die Gegenwart (Take Me) der 70er vor, um zwischenzeitlich verschiedenen Sounds der dazwischenliegenden Jahrzehnte Rechnung zu tragen. Das Gimmick und Highlight der Platte war letztlich der Ausblick ins Jahr 1986, das mit dem Superhit "I Feel Love" bahnbrechend und futuristisch daher kam.

Trotzdem möchte ich die Aufmerksamkeit noch mal auf das Discostück "Take Me" lenken, das - wie ich finde - eines der verkanntesten Disco-Stücke von Donna ist. Zeit es wieder zu entdecken...

As in 1977 the vinyl-record celebrate one's jubilee (100 years!) also Donna Summer payed her tribute. Her Concept-LP "I Remember Yesterday" included a range of musical influences from the 20s (I Remember Yesterday") to the nowadays of the 70s (Take Me) by passing different styles of decades between. The Highlight and most succesfull part of the LP was surely the pathbreaking and futuristic "I Feel Love", which should be a perspective for 1986.

Anyway, i would like to put attention to the forgotten Disco-masterpiece "Take Me". Much fun with it!

RIO BRASILIA - GIBSON BROTHERS

Die Gibson Brothers erreichten ihren karierremäßigen Höhepunkt 1979/1980. Ihre erste Single veröffentlichten die Brüder aus Martinique aber schon 1976 und 1977 sollte die offensichtlich seltene LP "By Night" erscheinen. Der darauf veröffentlichte Song "Rio Brasilia" ist zwar kein Tanzbodenkracher, aber wirklich gut gemacht. Produziert ist das ganze von den französischen Hit-Produzenten Jean Kruger und Daniel Vangarde, letzterer der Vater von Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk)...

The career of the Gibson Brothers reached around 1979/1980 it's climax. But the first single of the brothers from Martinique was already published in 1976, and in 1977 the obviously rare LP "By Night" followed with a couple of interesting songs. Ein Song dessen Gesang durch Mark und Bein geht ist "Space Woman" von "Herman's Rocket".Vorsicht also mit zerbrechlichem in der Nähe der Boxen, die Stimmlage der Sängerin erreicht eine Intensität, die eine Gefahr für Gäser und Spiegel bedeuten könnte. Alles in allem also herrlich schräger Discosound aus Italien, produziert 1977 von J.P. Massiera...

A charming and funny track from Italy is "Space Woman" of "Herman's Rocket". But be careful with glasses or mirrors around your stereo. If you hear the song too loud they could not survive the intensity of the singers voice. Produced by J.P. Massiera...

BOND 77 - MARVIN HAMLISH

Mein Lieblings-James-Bond-Film ist ganz klar "Der Spion der mich liebte" von 1977. Roger Moore und die zauberhafte Barbara Bach - spätere Eherfrau Ringo Starrs - retten dort die Welt vor dem größenwahnsinnigen Bösewicht Stromberg, der wie so oft in Bond-Filmen von einem deutschen (Curd Jürgens)  gespielt wird. 

Großartige Kulissen, tolle Drehorte und süffisante Dialoge geben dem Film schwung. Herausragend - und für einen Bond-Film geradezu Revolutionär - war die damalige Filmmusik von Marvin Hamlish. Vor allem das Stück "Bond 77" ist ein echtes Discojuwel auf dem Soundtrack "The Spy Who Loved me"...

My all time favourite James-Bond-Movie was and is "The Spy Who Loved Me" of 1977. Roger Moore and the magnificent Barbara Bach - later the wife of Ringo Starr - are saving together the world. Their evil combatant is played - like very often - by a famous german actor of these days (Curd Jürgens). 

Fantanstic places (Egypt, the Alps, Sardinia), wonderful scenery and funny dialogs are giving the movie the right tempo. Another important point of the it's succes was the - at least for a Bond movie - revolutionary music score by Marvin Hamlish. Especially the track "Bond 77" is a disco-jewel on the Soundtrack "The Spy Who Loved me"...

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN - VAN McCOY

Disco meets Colt - The Magnificent Seven and Mr. McCoy

Van McCoy wird im Grunde ja immer nur mit "The Hustle" verbunden, doch gab es noch eine Reihe weitere, wirklich tolle Kreationen des Musikers und Produzenten aus Washington D.C. Zum Beispiel seine Discointerpretation des Hauptthemas aus dem Westernklassiker "Die Glorreichen Sieben". Auf der LP "Van McCoy - And His Magnificent Movie Machine" aus dem Jahr 1977 nahm er sich eine ganze Reihe populärer Filmkomposition vor und verlieh ihnen den nötigen Discodrive für die Tanzfläche. Das "groovigste" Stück darunter ist "The Magnificent Seven"...

Van McCoy is still present on radio stations with his topseller "The Hustle". Beside this classic piece of disco history, McCoy made some other well done records like his LP "Van McCoy - And His Magnificent Movie Machine". Therefore he prepaired famous old themes of famous old films for the dancefloor. The best part of it is in my opinion the funky version of "The Magnificent Seven", a discoesque cover of the western classic "The Magnificent Seven". Published in 1977...

THAT'S THE TROUBLE (ALBUM VERSION) - GRACE JONES

Das Grace-Jones-Fieber scheint in Berlin nach ihrem Konzert diese Woche ausgebrochen. Kein Wunder, die inzwischen doch gereifte Dame wirkt lebendig und frisch wie kaum ein andere "Disco-Star" ihrer Generation. Ich hab leider Grace Jones um eine Woche in Paris verpasst, sie tritt dort am 22.03 in Aktion. 

Zeit sich ihren Anfängen zu erinnern. Hier der nach "La Vie En Rose" meiner Meinung nach zweitbeste Titel ihrer Debut-LP "Portfolio" von 1977: "That's The Troble".  Abgemixt und Produziert wurde das komplette Album von niemand geringerem als Tom Moulton...

After her Concert this week a kind of Grace-Jones-Fever is rising in Berlin. It's not a miracle, cause she is active and fresh like no other "Disco-Star" of her generation. unfortunately i have passed Grace Jones' concert in Paris on the 22nd of March, i was one week to early there.

But maybe the perfect time to remember her beginnigs with the - in my opinion - second best song (after "La Vie En Rose") of her Debut-LP "Portfolio": "That's The Trouble". Mixed and produced by no one else than the legendary Tom Moulton...

SANDSTORM - DESERT EXPRESS

Zurück aus dem traumhaften Paris des Frühlings im leider noch winterlich grauen Moskau präsentier ich heute "Sandstorm" von "Desert Express". Irgendwie passt der Titel zu der Stimmung die die schneebedeckte Plattenbau-Einöde bei mir gerade so erzeugt.

In den letzten Tagen hatte ich ein Paar technische Probleme durch erzwungene Windowsbenutzung, gottseidank hab ich aber nun wieder meinen Mac und alles läuft wieder! Nur warum klappts mit "blogspot-com" und windows nicht so wirklich? Seltsam...

Back from wonderful Paris in the spring time i look out of the window and see snow and darkness in Moscow. That suits more or less to "Desert Express" with "Sandstorm", a german production of 1977.

After some technical problems because of using windows, i work again on OS X. why does windows not fit with "blospot-com"? However, much fun with "Sandstorm"...

Ein kurzer Text wirds heute: Hier kommt der Song "Violation" des wunderbaren Projekts Saint Tropez des Produzentenduos Rinder & Lewis. Veröffentlicht 1977 auf Saint Tropez' Debut-LP "Je T'Aime".

OU SONT LES FEMMES - PATRICK JUVET

Paris III:

Ein Meilenstein für die Karriere des französisch-schweizerischen Schmuseballadenkönigs und Teenie-schwarms namens Patrick Juvet war die LP "Paris By Night" im Jahre 1977. Zusammen mit dem Produzenten Jean-Michel Jarre nahm Juvet zwei wirklich gute Discosongs auf, von denen "Ou Sont Les Femmes" im französisch-sprachigen Raum auch zum echten Hit avancierte. 

Juvets und Jarres Wege trennten sich nach dem Album. Juvet schreibt in seinen Memoiren, er hätte die Zurückweisung seiner Gefühle durch Jarre nicht verkraftet und so ging er nach New York um dort sein Glück mit dem "Village People"-Produzenten Jaques Morali zu versuchen...

A complete change of his Image was for Patrick Juvet his LP "Paris By Night". Together with Jean-Michel Jarre he recorded two very well done discotracks on this album of which "Ou Sont Les Femmes" became a huge succes in french speaking countries. 

After this LP, Jarre and Juvet stopped their work. Juvet wrote in his memoires, that he wasn't able to accept the rejection of his feelings by Jarre. However, he decided to try his luck in New-York and started a very intensive "buisness" relation with Jaques Morali, also producer of the "Village Family"...

WHAT KIND OF DANCE IS THIS? - VERONICA UNLIMITED

Diesen Song findet man entweder furchtbar lästig und grauenvoll oder man mag ihn wegen seiner trashigen euro-disco qualitäten. "Veronica Unlimited" ging auf die Initiative einer erfolgreichen holländischen Radiostation zurück, die vorallem die größten Hits der 60er rauf und runter nudelte. So wartet Veronica unlimited uns bei der Maxi "What Kind Of Dance Is This?" mit einem Medeley bekannter Hits aus den guten alten 60ern im schwungvollen Discokleid auf. Entstanden im Jahre 1977.

This Song you hate because of it's trashy ingredrients or you love it because of it's trashy ingredients. "Veronica Unlimited" was grounded by a succesfull duch radio station which played mainly hits of the 60s. That's why they promoted their broadcast with a medley of old hits in an up-to-date disco style. Watch out for the 12" "What Kind Of Dance Is This?" made in 1977.

Ein schmissiger Titel von Gregg Diamonds Projekt Bionic Boogie ist "Risky Changes". Vor allem die erste Minute hat es in sich und überzeugt mein Disco-ohr. Der Track erschien 1977 auf der LP Bionic Boogie aus der ich am 3. Dezember 2008 bereits den Titel "Big West"gepostet hab.

A snappy titel of Gregg Diamond's Project Bionic Boogie is "Risky Changes". Notably the first minute is extremely swinging in my disco-ears. The song was published in 1977 on the LP Bionic Boogie of which i already posted the track "Big West" on the 3rd of December 2008.

ORFEU NEGRO - THE CHOCOLAT'S

Zu den Glanzstücken der etwas unübersichtlichen Veröffentlichungen der "Chocolat's" gehört "Orfeu Negro" aus dem Jahre 1977. Ein sehr romantisch-melancholisches Stück mit großem Orchester und einem Hauch Südamerika-Sehnsucht. Schließlich wurde das Stück einmal für den Oscar und Golden Globe prämierten Film "Orfeu Negro" aus brasilianisch-französisch-italienischer Produktion geschrieben. Keine geringeren als die Bossa-Nova Legenden Luiz Bonfa und Antonio Carlos Jobim steuerten den weltbekannten Soundtrack dazu.

Die hier präsentierte Discoversion der "Chocolat's war übrigens ein Projekt des belgischen Produzenten Jean Vanloo der später auch Patrick Hernandez' Superhit "Born to be Alive" produzieren sollte. Gemixt wurde Orfeu Negro - wie auch das Titelstück der Platte "The Kings of Clubs" - von Tom Moulton.

To the highlights of the confusing publishings made by The "Chocolat's" belongs "Orfeu Negro". A very romantic-melancholic composition with huge orchester and a breeze of southamerican nostalgia. Written was Orfeu Negro for a brazilian-italian-french movie of 1959 (movie "Black Orpheus"), a production that earned a range of prizes like the Oscar and the Golden Globe and was also for it's Soundtrack made by Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Carlos Jobim famous. 

The discoversion i present here was made in 1977 by the belgian producer Jean Vanloo (he also produced Patrick Hernandez' "Born to be Alive"). Orfeu Negro was released on the 12" "The Kings of Clubs" and was mixed by Tom Moulton.

LA NUIT POUR NOUS - CRISTAL

Sehr mondän und abgehoben kommt "La Nuit Pour Nous" daher. Verantwortlich hinter den Kulissen waren bei "Cristal" Alain Wisniak, Patrick Sesti und Cerrone, die den Track 1977 als B-Seite der Maxi "Phonic" veröffentlichten. Nichts für die Tanzfläche, aber fürs Schlafzimmer...

Very sophisticated comes "La nuit Por Nous" along. Behind the project-name "Cristal" were hiding Alain Wisniak, Patrick Sesti and Cerrone. It was published as B-Side of the 12" "Phonic" in 1977. Nothing for the dancefloor but for the bedroom...
