HELP! HELP! - BONEY M

Ein mir bis vor kurzem unbekannter Song von "Boney M" ist "Help! Help!". Interessanterweise nimmt der Song Elemente des Boney M-Stückes "New York City" (veröffentlicht als B-Seite der Single "Sunny") und des Tracks "Help! Help!" der Sängerin "Gilla" auf. Natürlich stammt das alles aus dem Hause Frank Farian, der mit seinem Projekt "Boney M" 1976 auf die absolute Erfolgsspur einschwenkte.

Als erste westliche Popgruppe lud der sowjetische Generalsekretär der KPdSU L. Breschnew im Jahr 1978 die in der Sowjetunion ausserordentlich populäre Popgruppe "Boney M" ein. Deren Ankunft als auch ihre Auftritte wurden innerhalb des Landes wie auch international aufmerksam verfolgt. Um so vorsichtiger war der Umgang mit der sowjetischen Staatsmacht als auch den nationalen wie internationalen Medien.

Denn in Frank Farians Gepäck befand sich bereits die noch unveröffentlichte Single "Rasputin". Zu unsicher war man, wie das russische Publikum - aber auch die politischen Führer - auf die Geschichte des Mönchs am Zarenhofe im Discokleid reagieren könnte. Da jedoch die deutschstämmige Zarin und ihr mysteriöser Mönch wesentlichen Anteil an der Diskreditierung der russischen Dynastie vor der Revolution 1917 hatten, war es später nicht verwunderlich, das nach dem Ende des Gastspiels und der Veröffentlichung der Single diese in der SU ein riesen Erfolg wurde.

The first western Pop-group on the territory of the Soviet Union was the in Europe outstanding popular act "Boney M". Leonid Breshnew, the head of the state, invited the group to join Moscow in 1978. The newspapers and TV-stations in Europe and the SU made a big buisness of the arrival and the Gigs of the group, so that producer Frank Farian thought it's better to be careful with statements or provocating events.

That's whay the song "Rasputin" wasn't a part of the concerts. The song was ready to publish, but Farian waited for the time after the glamouros travel to moscow. He thought the text could irritade the audience and the politicians as well.

But maybe the funny text was the key of the later succes in the SU. The story about the Zarina from Germany and her scandal-monk (both together were blamed of wide circles in Russia to destroy the dynasty and the state short before revolution in 1917) was surely not a problem for the nomenklatura in the red empire.
