Das Album ist nach erprobtem Summer-Konzept als Themen-LP gestaltet, auf der Donna sich als Märchenprinzessin auf Discopfaden inszeniert.

Donna Summer is tonight in Berlin. Just the right moment for remembering her forgotten songs like "Once Upon A Time". This one was published on her double-LP "Once Upon A Time..." in 1977, an interesting concept-album preparing the cinderella story for the dancefloor.

Kürzlich bekam ich post von einem Disco-DJ aus Russland der mich nach der Gruppe "Overdrive" und ihrer LP "Electric Overdrive" fragte. Dazu ist zu sagen, dass jene in Deutschland 1980 entstandene LP wirklich extrem selten und eigentlich heute völlig unbekannt ist. Trotzdem hat man selbst jenseits des Eisernen Vorhangs davon Notiz genommen. Hier kommt also nun Overdrive mit "Magic Moon"...

Some days ago i received a mail from Russia. A Disco-DJ asked me, if i have the LP "Electric Overdrive" of Overdrive made in 1980 here in Germany. And of course, i own this rare and nowadays totally unknown record. Surprisingly, even in the days of the "Iron Curtain" relatively unpopular records and bands of the West found their way to Sowjet-Russia. Here now "Magic Moon" of "Overdrive"...

Der Film "Foxes" - ein wirklich grandios bitter-suesser Streifen mit Jodie Foster aus dem Jahr 1980 - ist ein echtes Soundtrack-Juwel. Neben grossen Namen wie Cher (Bad Love) oder Donna Summer (On The Radio) findet sich auch der Song "Shake It" auf der Doppel-LP "Foxes", die von Giorgio Moroder im besten "Munich Sound" kreiert wurde. Songschreiber war uebrigens Bruce Sudano, der spätere Ehemann von Donna Summer, der bei "Brooklyn Dreams" mit von der Partie war. Viel Vergnuegen damit!

The movie "Foxes" - a magnificent and bitter-sweet creation with a young Jodie Foster - has an excellent double-LP soundtrack made by Giorgio Moroder. Beside Stars like Cher (Bad Love) or Donna Summer (On The Radio), the group "Brooklyn Dreams" is performing the song "Shake It", a classic masterpiece of the famous munich sound. By the way, Bruce Sudano - the husband of Donna Summer and member of Brooklyn Dreams - had written the songtext.

Back in Bavaria for some holiday i am quite often to lazy for blogging new tracks. But today i am in the mood for posting a pushing summer track for hardcore euro-disco-fans: The Song "Disco Bouzouki" of the "Disco Bouzouki Band" made in 1977. The name of the Band and the song says everything, the Bouzouki is the main part of the recording. A lovely chorus of men plus a pushing beat assured a strange greek disco-trash expirience.

Heute verbringe ich meinen letzten von rund 300 Abenden seit September 2008 in Moskau. Da sollte der heute hier im Mittelpunkt stehende Song durchaus Bezug zu dieser Stadt haben. Ausgewählt hab ich daher "Moskow Diskow" der belgischen Gruppe "Telex". Diese wandelten 1979 bei diesem Song voll und ganz auf den musikalischen Spuren von Kraftwerk, was der Qualität des Tracks natürlich nur gut tun kann. In diesem Sinne "Dosvedanja Moskva"! Machs gut!

Today i am spending the last of circa 300 evenings since september 2008 in Moscow. That's why my post today should honour this special time in my life. Wer kennt nicht "D.I.S.C.O" oder "Hands Up" von "Ottawan". Ein anderer Hit, durchaus Charmant wenngleich sehr simple arrangiert, ist "You're O.K." aus dem jahr 1980. Hinter Ottawan stecken übrigens die Produzenten Daniel Vangarde und Jean Kluger, die auch die "Gibson Brothers" im Programm hatten. Daniel Vangarde ist übrigens Vater von Thomas Bangaltar von Daft Punk...

A mayor Hit in Europe in 1979 was D.I.S.C.O of "Ottawan". Their next single was the very simple but charming "You're O.K." in 1980, which was reaching also high chart-ratings all over europe. Der Titel "Reflections" der Supremes wurde unzählige mal gecovert. Auch von einer deutschen Studioformation namens "Ebony", von der ich schon mal "Don't Boogie Mr. Tango" von 1976 geposted hab. Hier nun ihre schon musikalisch sehr auf den Pfaden der 80er wandelnde Interpretation von "Reflections" aus dem Jahr 1980...

The Song "Reflections", originally sung by the Supremes, was covered for several times in several decades. Also a german studio-formation called "Ebony" did it in 1980. Not bad, more Pop than Disco. Another song i posted of Ebony was "Don't Boogie Mr. Tango" made in 1976...

Ein echter Klassiker ist die Discoversion von "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" der "Boys Town Gang" aus San Francisco. Natürlich kennt und hat die jeder in seiner Sammlung, aber hier wird nicht die gewöhnliche Langversion, sondern der "Special Disco Remix" von 1982 gepostet!

Genau das Richtige für länger werdende, warme Abende ist "Nights Over Egypt" von den "Jones Girls". Brenda, Valorie and Shirley Jones aus Detroit waren ursprünglich Backup-Sängerinnen für Diana Ross, Lou Rawls, Linda Clifford, Aretha Franklin und andere, bevor sie ab 1979 auch eigenes veröffentlichten. "Nights Over Egypt" wurde 1981 auf der LP "Get As Much Love As You Can" veröffentlicht und von Dexter Wansel, Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff and McKinley Jackson produziert.

Something for warm and long nights in a tasty atmosphere is "Nights Over Egypt" of the "Jones Girls". Unter der Kategorie "3 Damen singen zu Discobeat" mag ich die stimmen von "First Choice" wohl am liebsten. So unglaublich lasziv und doch sophisticated klingt es doch eher selten und der Name der Formation war so durchaus Programm. Also viel Vergnügen mit dem "First Choice Theme (So Let Us Entertain You / Ain't he bad)", veröffentlicht 1976 auf der LP "So Let Us Entertain You".

Maybe my favourite voices in the category of three singing disco ladies are the ones of "First Choice". Lascivious and sophisticated, soft and incisive are describing words of their sound. A good example is the "First Choice Theme (So Let Us Entertain You) / Ain't he bad", recorded in 1976 and published on the LP "So Let Us Entertain You". Much fun with it!

Ein wirklich unvergleichlich schöner, verträumt-bitterer und trotzdem beflügelnder Discosong ist "Call Me Tonight" von Cerrone. Einer meiner absoluten Lieblingssongs. Erschienen ist der Originaltrack auf der LP "Angelina" (Cerrone V) 1979. Eine weitere Version, welche ich hier heute poste, gab es dann 1982, veröffentlicht auf dem LP "Cerrone IX". letztere ist relaxter und weniger Disco, aber nicht minder traumhaft.

A extraordinary and magnificent beautiful, moony-bitter but also energy spending track is "Call Me Tonight" of Cerrone. One of my personal all-time favourites. Published was the original version on the LP "Angelina" (Cerrone V) in 1979. Another, more relaxed but not less wonderful version, was a part of the LP "Cerrone IX".

Eine meiner liebsten Eurovision Song Contest Beiträge aus Deutschland ist Joy Flemings "Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein" von 1975. Leider landete der Song weit abgeschlagen auf dem 17. Platz, und das, obwohl der Song wohl wirklich auf der Höhe der Zeit war. Fast wie eine deutsche Gloria Gaynor schmettert Joy Fleming stimmgewaltg den Text und das Orchester bewegt sich musikalisch durchaus schon in Richtung Disco. Es gibt übrigens auch eine Englische Version namens "A Brige of Love"...

One of my favourite performances of Germany made at the Eurovision Song Contest was "Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein" (directly translated: a song can be a bridge) of Joy Fleming in 1975. Unfortunately the song only reached place 17 in a field of 19. However, the track is fantastic. Strong-voiced, Joy Fleming acts like a german Gloria Gaynor while the Orchestra arrangements are already Disco-alike. By the way, there is also an english version of that song called "A Bridge Of Love"...

Der Eurovision Song Contest ist hier in Moskau in vollem Gange, morgen steht schließlich das Finale 2009 an. Zeit sich diesem Thema in den nächsten Tagen aus Disco-historischer Sicht zu widmen. Heute präsentier ich den Gewinner des Jahres 1978: "Izhar Cohen & The Alpha-Beta" mit dem Track "A-Bi-Ni-Bi" aus Israel.

Israel gewann die Show, doch kam es im Anschluss zu einem weniger schönen Eklat. Nicht am Contest teilnehmende arabische und nordafrikanische Staaten, die die Show ausstrahlten, unterbrachen nach Bekanntwerden des Sieges aus Protest die Übertragung der Sendung...

Eine ausserordentlich gelungene Discoplatte des 1979 langsam aus der Mode kommenden aufwendig instrumentalisierten Disco-Stils ist die LP "Strange Affair" von "Strange Affair". Produziert wurde die Platte von Giuliano Salerni, der ebenso den Hi-Gloss Hit "You'll never know" auf den Markt brachte. Neben dem hier präsentierten "Don't Stop The Music" gibts noch ne Reihe anderer gelungener Tracks auf der Scheibe, die zu späterem Zeitpunkt gepostet werden...

A costly and ambitous orchestrated latecomer of it's kind, produced by Giuliano Salerni who was also responsible for the Hi-Gloss Hit "You'll never know". Vielleicht ist "Got to be real" von "Selection" ein soundmäßiger Nachzügler, denn der Track klingt wohl eher nach 1979 oder 1980 als nach 1982, aber was macht das schon - Hauptsache es klingt gut! Die Produzenten waren übrigens zwei in New York tätige Italiener, die diese Platte dort in den Sigma Studios aufnahmen...

Maybe "Got to be real" of "Selection" is a latecomer in it's music-style, in my opinion it sounds more like 1979 or 1980 as made in 1982. But who cares, the main thing is the quality, and that song is doozy! By the way, the producers were two italiens, who recorded this LP at the Sigma Studios in New York...

Heute geht es für mich ne Woche nach Berlin! Und ich kehre Moskau ein Weilchen den Rücken. Musikalische Untermalung findet meine Frühlingsreise durch die zauberhafte Donna Summer, die mit "Spring Affair" den richtigen Ton für mich anschlägt. Der Song war der große Hit ihrer LP "Four Seasons of Love" aus dem Jahr 1976, in dem sie so hübsch die 4 Jahreszeiten besingt. Die Platte hatte als Beigabe übrigens einen hübschen Kalender für 1977, der Donna stilisiert in den vier Jahreszeiten in harmlosen erotischen Zitaten zeigt.

"Midnight Rhythm" von "Midnight Rhythm", aufgenommen 1978 und publiziert auf der LP "Midnight Rhythm" präsentier ich heute. Gemixt wurde die Platte übrigens von Richie Rivera. Der Sound ist trotzdem ziemlich schwülstig und extrem verspielt, streckenweise aber durchaus faszinierend, vor allem das Trompeteninferno zur dritten Minute.

Eine der großen Diven der Disco-Ära blieb in meinem Blog bisher unerwähnt. Heute ändert sich das. Hier kommt Gloria Gaynor mit ihrem Song "Most Of All". Produziert wurde der Song und die dazugehörige LP "Glorious" von Gregg Diamond, ein umtriebiger und erfolgreicher Produzent, der schon mit Andrea True (More More More) und eigenen Projekten wie Bionic Boogie (Risky Changes) gut im Geschäft war. Erschienen ist die Platte 1978...

Üppiger als bei Alfie Khans Projekten konnte die Orchestrierung Mitte der 70er kaum ausfallen. Neben seinem "Alfie Khan Sound Orchester" und Marianne Rosenberg war Joachim Heider (Alfie Khan) auch mit Su Kramer, als Musicalsängerin eine Kurzeitkollegin von Donna Summer in der deutschen Fassung von "Hair", beschäftigt. Der Song "Hier ist das Leben" wartet mit den üblichen Discoelementen auf, wobei der Text durchaus als progressiv im Sinne der sexuellen Gleichstellung der Frau gelten kann.

Von dem Track gab es schließlich noch eine englische Variante, die in immerhin 17 Ländern in den Plattenregalen verkauft wurde und heute hier zusammen mit der Instrumentalversion von mir geposted wird: "You've Got The Power", aufgenommen 1976...

Einen weiteren spacigen, diesmal aber nicht so "dunkel" arrangierten Track gibt es heute: "Gefahr" von Christian Bruhn. Am 09.12.2008 postete ich bereits den deutschen Titeltrack der Cartoon-Serie "Captain Future" (klick bitte auf den Link für weitere Infos), "Gefahr" ist nun ein weiterer des Soundtracks "Captain Future". Die Arbeit Bruhns ist einfach unvergleichlich!

Ein hübsch verträumter Titel von Idris Muhammad ist der heutige Titel auf meinem Blog. "One With A Star", erschienen 1978 auf der LP "Boogie To The Top", bietet echte Ambient-Qualitäten und ist genau das richtige für den Ausklang eines gefühlsintensiven Frühlingstag.

Idris Muhammad convertierte übrigens in den 1960ern zum Islam und war eigentlich weniger im Disco- als im Jazzbusinnes zu Hause. Seinen musikalischen Einstand erlebte aber als 15 Jähriger als Schlagzeuger des Fats Domino Hits "Blueberry Hill"...

Ein mir bis vor kurzem unbekannter Song von "Boney M" ist "Help! Help!". Interessanterweise nimmt der Song Elemente des Boney M-Stückes "New York City" (veröffentlicht als B-Seite der Single "Sunny") und des Tracks "Help! Help!" der Sängerin "Gilla" auf. Natürlich stammt das alles aus dem Hause Frank Farian, der mit seinem Projekt "Boney M" 1976 auf die absolute Erfolgsspur einschwenkte.

Nach ihrem Überraschungserfolg mit der LP "Silver Convention" arbeiteten die Produzenten Sylvester Levay und Michael Kunze eifrig an einer Nachfolge-LP ihres Studioprojektes "Silver Convention". Und siehe da, die LP "Get Up And Boogie" sollte - wie ihre Vorgängerin - wieder zu verkaufmäßigen Höhenflügen ansetzen, vor allem dank dem gleichnamigen Titeltrack der in den USA Platz 2 der Singlecharts erreichte. Einer meiner Favoriten auf der Platte ist übrigens der sehr laszive Song "You've Turned Me On (But You Can't Turn Me Off)...

After their surprising succes with the LP "Silver Convention", the producers Sylvester Levay and Michael Kunze worked hardly on a succesor LP for their Studio-Project "Silver Convention". Take Me...

Als 1977 die Schalplatte ihren hunderten Geburtstag feierte, trug auch die gute Donna Summer mit der Konzept-LP "I Remember Yesterday" zur Erinnerung an jenes Jubiläum bei. Musikalisch arbeitet sie sich darauf von den 20ern (I Remember Yesterday) bis in die Gegenwart (Take Me) der 70er vor, um zwischenzeitlich verschiedenen Sounds der dazwischenliegenden Jahrzehnte Rechnung zu tragen. Das Gimmick und Highlight der Platte war letztlich der Ausblick ins Jahr 1986, das mit dem Superhit "I Feel Love" bahnbrechend und futuristisch daher kam.

Trotzdem möchte ich die Aufmerksamkeit noch mal auf das Discostück "Take Me" lenken, das - wie ich finde - eines der verkanntesten Disco-Stücke von Donna ist. Zeit es wieder zu entdecken...

As in 1977 the vinyl-record celebrate one's jubilee (100 years!) also Donna Summer payed her tribute. Her Concept-LP "I Remember Yesterday" included a range of musical influences from the 20s (I Remember Yesterday") to the nowadays of the 70s (Take Me) by passing different styles of decades between. The Highlight and most succesfull part of the LP was surely the pathbreaking and futuristic "I Feel Love", which should be a perspective for 1986.

Anyway, i would like to put attention to the forgotten Disco-masterpiece "Take Me". Much fun with it!

Die Debut-LP "Brooklyn, Bronx & Queens" von der "BB&Q Band" ist eine etwas schwungvollere Weiterentwicklung des zunehmend etwas gediegener daherkommenden Sounds von "Change" aus dem Hause Mauro Malvasi und Jacques Fred Petrus. Neben dem weithin bekannten "On The Beat" gibt es eine Reihe weiterer gelungener Aufnahmen auf der LP, so zum Beispiel der Song "Mistakes". Bei den Aufnahmen wurde wieder ein Staraufgebot aufgefahren, das der Platte wirklich anzuhören ist. Aufgenommen wurde der Sound übrigens im sonnigen Bologna, der Gesang (unter anderem Luther Vandross und Diva Gray) in New York...

Die Gibson Brothers erreichten ihren karierremäßigen Höhepunkt 1979/1980. Ihre erste Single veröffentlichten die Brüder aus Martinique aber schon 1976 und 1977 sollte die offensichtlich seltene LP "By Night" erscheinen. Der darauf veröffentlichte Song "Rio Brasilia" ist zwar kein Tanzbodenkracher, aber wirklich gut gemacht. Produziert ist das ganze von den französischen Hit-Produzenten Jean Kruger und Daniel Vangarde, letzterer der Vater von Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk)...

BOND 77 - MARVIN HAMLISH

Mein Lieblings-James-Bond-Film ist ganz klar "Der Spion der mich liebte" von 1977. Roger Moore und die zauberhafte Barbara Bach - spätere Eherfrau Ringo Starrs - retten dort die Welt vor dem größenwahnsinnigen Bösewicht Stromberg, der wie so oft in Bond-Filmen von einem deutschen (Curd Jürgens) gespielt wird.

Großartige Kulissen, tolle Drehorte und süffisante Dialoge geben dem Film schwung. Herausragend - und für einen Bond-Film geradezu Revolutionär - war die damalige Filmmusik von Marvin Hamlish. Vor allem das Stück "Bond 77" ist ein echtes Discojuwel auf dem Soundtrack "The Spy Who Loved me"...

My all time favourite James-Bond-Movie was and is "The Spy Who Loved Me" of 1977. Roger Moore and the magnificent Barbara Bach - later the wife of Ringo Starr - are saving together the world. Their evil combatant is played - like very often - by a famous german actor of these days (Curd Jürgens).

Fantanstic places (Egypt, the Alps, Sardinia), wonderful scenery and funny dialogs are giving the movie the right tempo. Another important point of the it's succes was the - at least for a Bond movie - revolutionary music score by Marvin Hamlish. Especially the track "Bond 77" is a disco-jewel on the Soundtrack "The Spy Who Loved me"...

Heiß ging es wohl wirklich bei Debbie Jacobs her. Denn so beschwörend wie die Backing-girls und Debbie ihr "Hot Hot (Give it all you got)" in das Mikro schmettern ist anderes kaum anzunehmen. Übrigens ist der Song mein Lieblingstrack auf ihrer LP "Undercover Lover" von 1979...

Obviously hot seemed to be the atmosphere during the recordings of "Hot Hot (Give it all you got), otherwise this kind of fervency in the voices of Debbie Jacobs and her backing girls are unexplainable. From my point of view the best part of her LP "Undercover Lover" which was published in 1979...

Van McCoy wird im Grunde ja immer nur mit "The Hustle" verbunden, doch gab es noch eine Reihe weitere, wirklich tolle Kreationen des Musikers und Produzenten aus Washington D.C. Zum Beispiel seine Discointerpretation des Hauptthemas aus dem Westernklassiker "Die Glorreichen Sieben". Auf der LP "Van McCoy - And His Magnificent Movie Machine" aus dem Jahr 1977 nahm er sich eine ganze Reihe populärer Filmkomposition vor und verlieh ihnen den nötigen Discodrive für die Tanzfläche. Das "groovigste" Stück darunter ist "The Magnificent Seven"...

Van McCoy is still present on radio stations with his topseller "The Hustle". Die heute hübsch skurrillen Textpassagen, vorallem die gesprochenen, sorgen dabei für den gewissen und zeittypischen Hauch der etwas betulichen Disco-Dekadenz. This track is a real burner. "All I Wanna Love Is Love" of "Back In Time" is whirling through the boxes right to our ears directly into our legs. Amii Stewart schien die Rolle der mysterösen und feurigen Disco-Action-Queen wie angeboren. Nur leider kam sie mit ihrem Konzept etwas spät. Zwar war ihre Version von "Knock On Wood" einer der wohl größten und heute noch populärsten Erfolge der Disco-Ära, aber ein Anknüpfen sollte ihr nicht mehr so recht gelingen. Barry Leng, Produzent ihrer frühen Erfolge, polierte die Songs ihrer beiden unter seiner Führung entstanden Alben "Knock On Wood" und "Paradise Bird" (beide 1979) 1985 noch einmal auf der LP "The Hits" im Stil der Zeit auf. Mit dabei natürlich "Knock On Wood", aber auch ein eigenwilliger Ableger des Songs: Ash 48...

Amii Stewart managed the concept as mysterious and tempered Disco-Queen quite well, but maybe she went a little bit to late in that business. For sure, her coverversion of "Knock On Wood" was and is one of the most succesfull songs of the disco period, but selling records on that level she never reached again. Barry Leng, producer of her early LPs "Knock On Wood" and "Paradise Bird" (both 1979), remixed the songs on them in 1985 for the LP "The Hits". So here is "Knock on Wood 85'" and a kind of Spin-off of it: Ash 48.

Die Sugarhill Gang mit ihrem "Rapper's Delight" muss 1979 mächtig eingeschlagen haben, wurde kurz darauf deren Stil (den sie nach verschiedenen Quellen ja selbst schon abgeschaut haben) vielseitig kopiert. Hier versucht sich "Jocko" am McFadden & Withehead Hit "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now", übernimmt Beat und wesentliche melodische Elemente und legt eine Schicht fröhlichen Sprechgesangs darüber. Fertig war "Rhythm Talk", ein toller Song der reif fürs Wiederentdecken ist...

The Sugarhill Gang and their Hit "Rapper's Delight" seemed to be a little earth-quake for the music business in 1979. Short after their success a huge amount of musicians startet to copy the recept of "Rapper's Delight". For example the artist "Jocko" with "Rhythm Talk", in which he used the McFadden & Withehead Hit "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" like the "Sugarhill Gang" did it with "Good Times" of "Chic". The beat and the main elements of the arrangements together with a new spoken text seemed to be the road to a satisfied audience. Time to promote this well produced song, which was and is rather unknown in Germany...

Giorgio Moroder war in den Jahren um 1980 recht aktiv was die Produktion von Filmmusik betrifft. Zu seinen bekanntesten und auch besten Kompositionen auf diesem Feld zählt die Arbeit zum Film "American Gigolo" (deutscher Titel: "Ein Mann für gewisse Stunden"), bei der er mit Debbie Harry zusammen den "Blondie" Hit "Call Me" kreierte. Die Melodie des Stücks zieht sich wie ein roter Faden durch die gesamte Musikpallete des Soundtracks American Gigolo. Hier das Stück "Palm Springs Drive"...

So wie "The Machine" von Trevor Rabins Projekt "Tee Cees", erschienen auf der LP "Disco Love Bite" im Jahr 1978. Eigentlich war der Südafrikaner Rabin mehr im Rockgeschäft tätig, aber nach seinem Übersiedeln nach London gelüstete es ihn offenbar auch mal nach Disco...

Unzählige male wurde der Beatles-Song "Drive my Car" gecovert, nicht zuletzt in mehr oder minder gelungene Discoversionen. Hier nun eine wirklich gute von "Cristina" aus dem Jahr 1980. Leider hab ich von "Drive my Car" wieder nur ne kürzere Variante und würd mich über die längere freuen wenn sie mir jemand schickt...

Ancountable times the song "Drive my Car" of the Beatles was covered, also in more or less well done discoversions. Here now a really good one of "Cristina" made in 1980. Unfortunately i have again only a shorter version of "Drive my Car" and it would be fantastic if there is someone who has the long one and would like send it to me...

Roberta Kelly wurde neben ihrer damaligen Freundin Donna Summer Giorgio Moroder in München unter tatkräftiger Unterstützung der erstklassigen Musicland-Musiker produziert. Mein persönlicher Favorit ihrer Debut-LP "Trouble Maker" aus dem Jahr 1976 ist der relaxte Song "Family". Der Sound ähnelt stark der wohl zeitnah aufgenommen Donna Summer LP "A Live Trilogy". Anders als Summer gelang Roberta Kelly jedoch nicht der Sprung zum echten Starruhm. Durch ein Paar mehr oder minder gelungene Platten erreichte sie jedoch durchaus ein gewisses Maß an Bekanntheit in der damaligen Discoszene...

Roberta Kelly was beside Donna Summer (a close friend of her in Munich) a project of Giorgio Moroder and the magnificent Musicland-Team in Munich. My personal favourite of her Debut-LP "Trouble Maker", recorded in 1976, is the relaxed song "Family". The sound of this LP is quite similar to Donna Summer's LP "A Love Trilogy" recorded also in this time period. In difference to Summer, Roberta Kelly never reached a kind of stardom. But because of a couple of much ore less well done records she was not an unknown to the discoscene in the middle of the 70s...

One of my favourites of Cerrone is his version of the 60s Hit "Black Is Black". The song is a magnificent highlight of first class arrangement and shows one time more the full philharmonic programm of Disco before the end of real orchestration in dance music. Barry Whites LP "The Man" von 1978 gehört wohl zu den unbekanntesten, aber meiner Meinung nach auch besten Alben die der Maestro veröffentlichte. Sehr viel grooviger und funkiger ging es inzwischen zu, der überschwängliche Schmelz früherer Produktionen ist wie weg gewischt. Einer der Höhepunkte der Platte ist "Your Sweetness Is My Weakness"...

Barry White's LP "The Man" of 1978 is surely not one of the most popular but maybe one of his best creations. Funky and cool is the sound on it, not so rhapsodic like it's predecessors. A climax on this LP is "Your Sweetness Is My Weakness"...
